The Adventurist

AKA Occult Avengers - "The Gentlemen Adventurists' Society was a joint effort between the United States and her allies to quell the emerging para-natural menace (and the sometimes equally destructive para-natural panic).

Led by the popular "American Spirit", this pack of para-naturally powered personages are potent paragons of para-natural power practiced in protection of the People.

Hank Primm, the titanic "Magog", has grown a foot every year of his life for each of his 28 years. After his difficult birth, his mother, concerned that her scrawny son would be unable to to help them in the fields, sacrificed a goat to the wicked gods that live in the earth. She asked their help in making her son grow big and strong. Their blessing was more than adequate, and soon fieldwork was no longer practical. Primm became a member of a traveling circus as 'Magog', and there met Jean van Dynne. The two are inseparable and joined the Adventurists at the request of agents of the Crown.

Jean van Dynne, the diminutive "Pyske", is a child born of fairy parents and exchanged shortly after her birth for a human child of Cottingley, England. A changeling can expect a hard life under the best of circumstances, and Jean was no exception. She was unusually small and grew very slowly. She had an unusual affinity for insects and the out-of-doors, especially for a girl. Her peculiar nature became increasingly obvious over time, and she soon ran away to the same circus that took in Hank Primm.

Dr. Brice Bannington, the terrible "Behemoth", was a gifted archaeologist before his excavation of ancient Babylonian ruins uncovered an evil spirit locked away in an oil lamp. The spirit escaped into Bannington's own body, and now he must battle it for control.

Roger Stephens, the famous "American Spirit", is the most recent to take on the mantle of America's most poignant symbol of power. His soul is forever bonded to the Shield he bears, in the company of all the Spirits who've gone before him. A good personal friend of the American President, Stephens heads The Adventurists to prevent another supernatural disaster like the assassination of former President McKinley by the para-natural extremist, Czolgosz.

Antonio Stark, the eccentric "Iron Knight", is a self-declaimed defender of America. And who would argue with the millionaire weapons, railroad, and newspaper magnate? His armor is made up of pieces from many legendary armors, some refitted and modified. He uses a prototype Maxim gun as his primary armament. Stark is also a famous epicurean, and an indulgent laudanum-user much to the consternation of national temperance groups.

Daniel Black (orig.BlΓ€k), the enigmatic "Mr. Thursday", seems to be a pseudonym itself-- a cover identity as a brilliant physician. Very little is known about the lame doctor, but his walking-stick is capable of demonstrating incredible feats of weather control, illusion, and can even bestow flight and great strength upon its bearer. The cryptic Mr. Thursday speaks often of the ancient Nordic myths of the savage Viking peoples of his ancestral homeland. Perhaps this is a clue to the origin of his spectacular powers?"
