Kapoor at the Olympics
"Anish Kapoor has won the competition to design a monumental sculpture for the 2012 Olympic Games with plans for another flowing piece that is instantly recognizable as his.
Called ArcelorMittal Orbit after the company that is paying a large chunk of its budget, some £15 million in total, and presumably providing the 1,400 tonnes of structural steel that makes up the frame.
Nicknamed "The Rollercoaster", the design rises from a trumpet shaped base and features five distorted interlocking rings set around a central shaft. This will provide access to the UFO shaped viewing platform near the top with a lift and a spiraling staircase around it for those less lazy and fancying a walk."
Anish Kapoor is one my favorite contemporary artists. I have been lucky enough to
see his amazing work at the Tate in London and his Sky Mirror in NYC.
